UPDATE: ON OCTOBER 4TH, MY OPPONENT POSTED A NOTICE SAYING PAWLING HAD "SECURED OUR PERMITTING" FOR TWO NEW WELLS. THIS IS A SHAMEFULLY MISLEADING STATEMENT. AFTER THREE YEARS OF EFFORT, THE VILLAGE WAS ONLY GIVEN A THREE YEAR PERMIT WITH NO PROMISE OF RENEWAL.
MOREOVER, THE VILLAGE IS OBLIGATED TO FIND NEW SOURCES OF WATER. WORST OF ALL, THE VILLAGE WAS OFFERED A TWO YEAR PERMIT LONG AGO AND TURNED IT DOWN. SINCE THEN WE HAVE SPENT ALMOST $500K ON CONSULTANTS AND LAWYERS. FOR WHAT? FOR AN EXTRA YEAR?
AT THIS POINT THIS SINGLE WELL IS APPROACHING A $4.75M PRICE TAG. WE COULD HAVE A PERMANENT RESERVOIR SOLUTION FOR NOT MUCH MORE. INSTEAD, WE HAVE A MIS-MANAGED, OVER-PRICED, TEMPORARY SOLUTION. AND A VILLAGE GOVERNMENT THAT IS PLAYING POLITICAL GAMES WITH OUR FUTURE. THIS HAS TO STOP.
ON "DAY ONE" I WILL RETAIN A NEW ENGINEER AND WORK WITH THE TOWN TO GET US A PERMANENT, AFFORDABLE SOLUTION.
STEVE FOR WATER. STEVE4PAWLING.
It is no secret we’ve had water challenges in Pawling for decades. So why is our Village Government so secretive about what is really going on with water and wells?
Every citizen and every merchant deserves to know the exact status of our current (failing) wells, the mistakes made with the planned new wells (poor planning), why the Trustees turned down a 145,000 GPD permit (more poor planning) and, the reasons why the planned wells will not be nearly enough supply for the mid and long-term future.
As Chairman of our Planning Board, I created a detailed report on our water. The Mayor and Board didn’t want you to know what was in it. That’s just wrong.
You need to know. And I'll tell you -- in fact, reach out to me and I'll tell you right now.
As Mayor, I’ll use my very first Board meeting to pursue a “Second Opinion” on our reservoir. We are going to find out exactly what it will cost to refurbish our reservoir and see if we can stop depending on failing wells. And whatever we learn, good or bad, we will explain to the public in a mailing to every single homeowner, renter and landlord.
Here is the bottom line: Our permitted wells yield currently only 1/3rd of what they were planned to yield. I've been asking tough (but reasonable) questions about our wells for over a year. And as Mayor, I'll keep asking them until we have a workable solution for Pawling.
